There are thousands and thousands of dollars that can be spent on buying camping gear. The first question one must consider is what type of camping you are going to doing. If you plan on going on one trip each year, for a few days the camping gear that you need varies considerably from those who are intending on going bush for weeks on end several times a year. There is Cheap Camping Gear in two types. The first is poor quality gear that costs almost nothing. The other type of cheap camping gear though, refers to products that are good quality, but still cheap.

Regardless of the type of camping that you intend on doing, it pays to get quality gear. I have found many times that by buying gear that is extremely cheap (as in the quality is obviously going to suffer) you just end up having to re buy the gear later down the track. As the saying goes ‘A poor man buys twice’. There are important pieces of equipment to have when you go camping. It is worth getting good quality tents, sleeping gear and cooking gear.

A poor quality tent is bound to get you wet in any rain, and nothing is worse than a bad nights sleep. This includes a sleeping bag that is going to keep you warm, a decent pillow and a comfortable mattress. So many people buy cheap quality mattresses, go camping once and then give up on it because they slept poorly.
If you haven’t done camping before, its worth getting into it slowly.

Don’t go out and buy thousands of dollars of gear, because you may find that it isn’t what you expected. Start off slow, and when you are happy with what happens, purchase the gear that is going to fill the gaps in your camping experience. You can be extremely comfortable when camping, and it doesn’t have to break the wallet.

Make use of what you have around the house too; I am sure most households would have at least some basic camping gear, and why purchase new equipment if you have something that is going to do the job? If I don’t need something in a hurry, I am happy to wait around until a sale comes on. Many of the local camping, fishing and outdoor stores have specials on where you can get up to 50% off. That is a considerable amount of money in the long run!
